The Tuskegee men's basketball team allowed Valdosta State to sink Three-straight three pointers from
Winston Morgan, which sparked a 10-0 run for a 22-13 lead with 12:18 left in the first half and the Blazers never looked as TU had its three-game winning streak snapped, falling at home, 82-62.
Jones drilled a three pointer for a 25-15 lead with 10:31 left, but a 5-0 run by the Golden Tigers cut the deficit to 29-24 with 7:08 left in the half. However
Greg Zuppas ended a long scoring drought for the Blazers with a layup for a 31-24 lead as Justice later pushed the lead to eight at 40-32 with one minute left in the half.
TU would again trimmed the lead to three at 40-37, but junior
Clay Guillozet buried a triple with seven seconds left for a 43-37 lead at halftime. Justice began the 23-point second half with a triple for a 46-37 lead to get things started in the second half, sparking a 19-0 run to start the second half and a 62-37 lead with 13:44 left. Guillozet buried a triple for a 68-39 lead and a 25-2 run to open the second half with 12:23 remaining. The Golden Tigers pulled within 82-62 with a minute left for the final margin.
VSU shot 17 of 34 from the field and 3 of 9 from beyond the arc, while going 6 of 11 from the line. The Blazers had 17 rebounds with 11 assists and just four turnovers. Tuskegee also shot 50 percent from the field on 13 of 26, while going 4 of 11 from range and 7 of 9 from the line. The Golden Tigers had 18 rebounds with nine assists and 10 turnovers.
Skegee had three players in double figures led by 15 points from
Myles Thomas, while
Cam Grepke and
Riley Hamilton added nine points.
Jordan Gaines chipped in eight points to go along with six boards.
TU will host Fort Valley Stat in a double-header with the women next Saturday that gets underway at 1 p.m.
