Women's basketball looks to extend winning streak at Paine College

First year head coach Trelanne Powell looks to continue the process of turning the Tuskegee University women's basketball program around as they are set to put its four game winning streak on the line at Paine College Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tigers are off to a 5-1 and 1-0 record in conference plays.

In a previous interview with Coach Powell, she states " It's a bit different going into the season with a new coach. In preseason the girls all worked hard. We worked on individual skills and they've transferred over into the season." With the Golden Tigers off to a great start, it becomes the first time the women's team has an over .500 start at home in the first 6 games since 2014.
 
Alexis Carter, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., is the leading scorer for the Tuskegee Golden Tigers with 110 points and she leads the team with 25 blocks. In the non conference matchup against Georgia Southwestern, Alexis Carter paced TU with a season-high 24 point effort. Her 16 rebounds gave her a third straight double-double and fourth overall through only six games. The Atlanta, Ga. native scored 13 of 24 points in the first half. Carter has become a "go to" for the Golden Tigers and is referred to her teammates as a "walking bucket".

Shelle Daniels and Jade Wilson fell one point and one rebound shy of earning double-doubles. Jade Wilson is a Senior from Indianapolis, Indianna in her fourth year as a Golden Tiger. She played one season in 2016 at Eastern Michigan University. In an interview, she where was asked "what do you attribute to your teams early success?" she responded  "I have contributed to the teams early success by being a senior leader and leading by example" Jade Wilson is a team captain and very successful this season with get getting her team on track.

The Golden Tigers have 25 games in the regular season with five wins under their belt and one loss which is a strong start to a long season, the team's best start since the 2011-12 season when they got off to a 7-1 start. Tipoff with Paine College Saturday is set for  2 p.m. ET
