Just like last season, the Tuskegee University women's basketball team will open its season at GSC/SIAC Challenge hosted on the campus of Montevallo. First year head coach
Trelanne Powell and the Golden Tigers will face the Auburn University-Montgomery Friday at 5 p.m. before closing out the invite Saturday against host school, the University of Montevallo.
Both games during last season's challenge featured a pair of thrillers. The last time the Warhawks and Golden Tigers collided,
Jade Wilson scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but TU could not hold on falling by two, 61-58. The very next day Skegee held a 12 point lead over the Falcons before eventually falling 73-71 after a last second ditch effort at the buzzer that landed off the mark.
Wilson returns as the team's leader in points (14.0 ppg) and rebounds (8.0 rpg). The Indianapolis, Ind. native only played in 17 of the team's 27 games before suffering a season ending injury. Only once did she not score in double figures.
Shelle Daniels,
Teja Finley,
Ashiala Jackson and
Alexus Shirrells are also names that logged quality minutes through the course of last season.
