The Tuskegee University women's basketball team improved to 2-1 after a thrilling 44-42 road win over the University of West Georgia Tuesday night in Carrollton, (Ga.). The victory continues the trend marking the third consecutive game in this series where the road team has been victorious.
Both teams struggled to manufacture scoring most of the night, and the first quarter was no different, as Jayda Dooley's jumper with four seconds left gave UWG an 11-5 lead after one quarter of play. The two teams added just nine points in the second quarter, leaving the Golden Tigers with a 20-14 deficit at halftime.
TU tied the game twice before an Alexis Carter layup gave the Golden Tigers its first lead of the game at the 1:08 mark of the third quarter. With both teams tied at 32-32 after three quarters, neither team led by more than three in the final quarter. Skegee broke a 40-40 tie with 1:56 remaining, and from that point on the Wolves drew even twice, but never retook the lead. West Georgia had numerous chances late in the game to tie or take the lead, including an Aysha Harris three-pointer with three seconds left, but the attempt was no good.
Eleana Daniels led all scorers with 13 points and eight rebounds. Alexis Carter finished with a game-high 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots to go along with her six points for the Golden Tigers. Aysha Harris was West Georgia's top scorer, putting up nine points.
Tuskegee will play its home opener next Tuesday in a double-header with Auburn-Montgomery that gets underway at 5:30 p.m. A live video stream will be carried on the Tuskegee Digital Network at 5:25 p.m.
