West Florida escapes with four point win

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Five days after falling to West Florida by 30 points, the Tuskegee University women's basketball team battled the Argos at Chappie James Arena but could not overcome late mistakes in a 61-57 loss Tuesday evening.

UWF (6-2) won it's fourth-consecutive game despite missing 14 free throws and committing 22 turnovers. Junior Halee Nieman led the Argonauts with 19 points and eight rebounds, while senior Courtney Meyer added 13 points, 11 boards and three blocks for her sixth double-double of the season.

UWF shot just 39 percent overall, while it made just 1-of-12 3-point attempts and was 20-of-34 at the free throw line.

The Golden Tigers trailed 29-27 at the half.

TU held its opponent to only one three pointer . However that basket from downtown came during a key stretch in the fourth quarter when the Argos were trying to keep the Golden Tigers at arms length. Tuskegee drew to within 47-44 with 7:11 remaining before UWF went on 7-1 run, which was keyed by a Antoinette Williams fast break layup, Nieman's triple from the left wing and a Jade Davis hoop. From there, the home squad could get closer than five just twice in the final minute.

Tuskegee (1-8) lost for the firth-straight game and shot 27 percent as a team. The Golden Tigers lost to UWF for the second time in six days and was led in scoring by Jade Wilson's 11 points – three below her average.
