Women's basketball featured in double-header with men at AUM Tuesday

The Tuskegee University men's and women's basketball teams will make the short hike to Montgomery, Ala. for a double-header with Auburn-Montgomery(AUM) Tuesday afternoon. The first game from the AUM Athletics Complex starts at 6 p.m. and the men will follow shortly after.

Tuesday's encounter will be the second meeting of the season for the women, who fell to the Lady Warhawks 61-58 in the opening round of the GSC/SIAC Challenge at the University Montevallo.  In that game, TU forward Jade Wilson scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds but her team only converted on 20-of-61 from the field and 2-of-13 from three point range and still only manage to lose by three points.

The Golden Tigers enter the contest after losing it home opener last week against West Georgia.  They were out-rebounded by the Wolves 44-31 and committed 24 turnovers while allowing its opponent to score 22 points as a result.  The biggest disparity came from points scored in the paint with as the Golden Tigers were outscored 30-18 in that category.  After three games, Wilson leads TU in scoring (15.7) and rebounding (6.4). Taylor Miller adds 8.7 points per game with Asha Stegal dishing out an average of 2.3 assists per outing.

If Tuskegee (0-3) is able to come away with a win over the AUM, they will have to slow down he productivity of Jemaiya Lee, who is averaging 15.4 points per game. The junior forward scored 19 points when the two teams last met.

The men's team is looking to avoid an 0-5 start Tuesday evening against the Warhawks as well.  Last Saturday TU got outscored in the second half 41-31 and surrendered 20 second chance points en route to a 75-61 loss against Valdosta State. Gregg Boyd led the Golden Tigers, scoring 18 of the team's 22 points off the bench including 5-of-9 from three-point range. James Eads also scored in double figures with 13 points and four assists. Myles Thomas chipped in eight points while Thomas Massey pull down eight rebounds.

Travis Flagg's 16.5 points per game leads the Golden Tigers with James Eads contributing 14.5 ppg. AUM (1-2) has a trio of players averaging double figures with Desmond Deramus leading the way averaging 19.7 points per contest.
