FRANKFORT, Ky. | A strong fourth quarter in which the Tuskegee University women's basketball team was able to pull within a basket wasn't enough, as the Tigerettes fell short against Kentucky State 61-55 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action on the road Saturday afternoon.
Tuskegee (5-9, 1-5 SIAC) found themselves down by double-digits at the beginning of the final quarter, going down by 12 on a pair of occasions before they started a run midway through the quarter to pull within a basket. With 4:10 remaining in the game,
Jade Wilson knocked down one of two free throws to pull Tuskegee to within three at 52-49. The Tigerettes would trim the lead down again three more times, with the final time coming with 1:15 remaining on a Wilson lay-up; but it was free throws down the stretch by Kentucky State (5-9, 3-4 SIAC) that allowed the Thorobrettes to pull away with the win.
Rachel Brownlee led Tuskegee with 12 points off the bench, while
Taylor Miller added 11 off the bench. Wilson finished with seven points and seven rebounds on the day for Tuskegee, who shot just 30.9 (21-of-68) percent from the floor. They also shot 11.8 (2-of-17) percent from beyond the arc and 52.4 (11-of-21) percent from the free throw line.
Kentucky State was led by Brittani Rizzi with 19 points and Brooke Wallace with 10.
Tuskegee returns to action Monday night against Central State at 5:30 pm (est), with the game being carried by the Tuskegee Digital Network.
