Tuskegee claims second consecutive victory

Four players combine to match the output from Spring Hill

TUSKEGEE, Ala. | A quartet of youngsters led the Tuskegee University men's basketball team to their second consecutive victory, defeating Spring Hill College 85-67 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action Thursday night in Chappie James Arena.

The four combined to score as many points as Spring Hill (3-12, 2-2 SIAC) did for the entire contest – 67 – led by James Eads with a game-high 26 points. The sophomore shot 60 (6-of-10) percent from the floor and a perfect 100 (10-of-10) percent from the free throw line in the win. Austin Cherry, a sophomore, came off the bench to add 19; while sophomore Daniel Roach added another 13 and seven rebounds. Freshman Cam Grepke finished the night with nine points and five assists off the bench.

While the four combined to tie the output of Spring Hill, it was a trio of dunks late in the second half that brought the crowd to their feet and put the game out of reach. Grepke brought the crowd to its feet first with a one-handed dunk with 1:50 remaining in the contest, and then it was Roach's turn with 1:30 remaining when followed up a Grepke miss with a two-handed flush. The night was complete when Roach hit a dunk while falling away from the rim with just nine seconds remaining that had everyone running for the exits.

Tuskegee (3-12, 2-4 SIAC) finished the night shooting 45.3 (24-of-53) percent from the floor, while connecting on 46.2 (12-of-26) percent from beyond the arc. The Golden Tigers also shot 75.8 (25-of-33) percent from the free throw line.

Brandon Fischer led Spring Hill with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while William Loyd added 13 for the Badgers who finished the night shooting 44.7 (21-of-47) percent from the floor.

Tuskegee returns to action Saturday afternoon on the road at Kentucky State, with tip set for 3 pm (est). The game can be heard on the Tuskegee Digital Network.
