MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Kodie Girton pitched a complete game four-hitter, pushing Kentucky State to a series-clinching 9-1 victory over Tuskegee University at Paterson Field Sunday afternoon.
Girton went nine inning, giving up just one run (unearned) on four hits, while striking out 15 Tuskegee (3-13, 1-2 SIAC) batters. The lone run for Tuskegee came in the eighth inning following a
Dean DuBose walk. He reached second on a failed pick-off, and then scored when
Samuel Glickman laid down a bunt to score him from third.
Glickman led Tuskegee with a pair hits, finishing the day 2-for-2 with a walk; while
Joseph Mauldin and
Ryan Green added the other two hits on the day for the Golden Tigers.
Daniel Croom (1-2) suffered the loss for Tuskegee, working two innings and allowing six runs (four earned) off of just three hits.
Ricky Green and
Clayton Crews came in to work the final six innings, combining to allow just one run (unearned) off of three hits while striking out four.
Lazaro Sosa-Gonzalez finished the day 3-for-5 for Kentucky State (2-5, 2-1 SIAC), while Arnold Dominguez hit his second homerun in as many days – this one a three-run shot in the first inning.
Tuskegee returns to action Wednesday afternoon against Columbus State. The game is set to begin at 3 pm at Paterson Field.
