Tigerettes fall to Miles, two to meet next week at SIAC Tournament

Tuskegee falls to the seventh seed in the West Division

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Miles College connected on nine three-pointers en route to a 67-53 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Tuskegee University at Bill Harris Arena in the regular season finale.
 
Despite the loss, Tuskegee (5-20, 4-12 SIAC) was led by Aryana Jackson with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the free throw line. Rachel Brownlee added 16 points and six rebounds, her 22ndd consecutive game in double figures and 24 of 25 games this season.
 
Cheyanne Williams finished with a game-high 10 rebounds for Tuskegee, who finished the night 33.3 (18-of-54) percent from the floor and 23.1 (3-of-13) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 66.7 (14-of-21) percent, while winning rebounding battle 39-32.
 
Ashley Steger led Miles (15-11, 9-7 SIAC) with a game-high 21 points, including connecting on six of the nine three-pointers for the Lady Bears. Tierra Williams finished with 12 points, while Shaquinta Sales added 10 points and eight rebounds.
 
Miles shot 44.9 (22-of-49) percent from the floor and 47.4 (9-of-19) from beyond the arc. They also shot 66.7 (14-of-21) percent from the free throw line, while being forced into 18 turnovers.
 
After falling behind by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Tigerettes were able to work their way back into the game over a span of eight minutes as they trimmed the lead to 46-41 on a pair of free throws from Jackson. However, Miles had an answer for every run – a three-pointer from Steger as they hit one as the buzzer went off to end the third quarter.
 
The Tigerettes were able to close to within four early in the fourth quarter before Miles went on an 11-3 run to open a 12 point lead with 4:32 to play in the contest.
 
The same two teams will meet in the opening round of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference one week from tonight at 7:00 pm at Bill Harris Arena. It will be the third meeting of the season between the schools.
