TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University basketball programs will celebrate Senior Day and Breast Cancer Awareness on Saturday afternoon against Stillman College at Chappie James Arena.
The women will tip at 1 pm, followed by the men at 3 pm.
The programs will honor six seniors (three women and three men) on Saturday as
Vanessa Akra,
Halle Bentley and
Demetries McNealey play their final home for the women; while
Camden Foster,
Kevin May and
James Vinson will play their final home for the men. The athletic department will also recognize and honor senior cheerleader Sydney Walton prior to the men's game.
On the women's side, Tuskegee (5-19, 4-11 SIAC) will look to wrap up the fourth seed for the upcoming conference tournament with one game remaining next week.
The Tigerettes are led by junior
Rachel Brownlee at 17.0 points per game, including scoring in double figures in 20 straight games, and 6.3 rebounds per game. She has also scored in double figures in 22 of 23 games this season for Tuskegee. Freshman
Aryana Jackson returns after missing the last two games, in which Tuskegee lost by a combined eight points. Jackson is averaging 15.7 points per game through 10 games this season.
On the women's side in the conference, the only seed that has been locked up heading into the SIAC Tournament in the West Division is the top seed – Kentucky State at 14-2 in conference play. The remainder of the conference is a logjam, with two teams vying for the second seed and four other teams vying for the fourth seed – including Tuskegee.
The Tigerettes are currently tied with Stillman for fifth in the West, and with a win would have the tiebreaker over both Stillman and LeMoyne-Owen who are below them in the standings. The two are one game behind Lane (5-11), but the Tigerettes have the tiebreaker over them as well, and with a win coupled with a Lane loss could move to fourth Saturday.
However, on the women's side this year, with Spring Hill currently ineligible for the conference tournament the standings become a little clearer.
The top three seeds – Kentucky State, Miles and Central State – remain the same. With a Tuskegee victory, coupled with a Lane loss to Central State (Monday), the Tigerettes would wrap up the fourth seed out of the West Division for the conference tournament.
On the men's side, Tuskegee (13-10, 9-7 SIAC) will put their three-game winning streak on the line for Senior Day against the last team they fell to – Stillman.
James Eads leads the Golden Tigers at 11.5 points per game, while Foster is second on the team in scoring at 10.6 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 6.5 per game.
Elijah McMillan is third on the team in scoring at 10.0 points per game, while freshman
Austin Cherry is coming off a week in which he was awarded the co-Player of the Week by the SIAC as he averaged 22.7 points per game off the bench in three games.
The Golden Tigers need just one win in the final two games to lock up the fourth seed as they have the tiebreaker over LeMoyne-Owen, Kentucky State and Central State.
