TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University men's basketball team will turn the page to the 2017 portion of the schedule Monday afternoon as they return home for their first time since December 4, facing Claflin University in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) contest.
Tuskegee (1-10, 0-2 SIAC) and Claflin (6-4, 2-1 SIAC) will tip off at 3:30 pm inside Chappie James Arena, with the game carried on the Tuskegee Digital Network (no audio) beginning at tip.
The Golden Tigers will look to turn the page from the 2016 portion of the schedule in which they played five games on the road, and seven total games away from home. They enter the contest off of back-to-back losses to Clark Atlanta and Johnson C. Smith on the road, and will play at home for the first time in 29 days - a contest that Tuskegee won over Johnson C. Smith (61-53).
Tuskegee opens a four-game home stand Monday, playing four games in 10 days before hitting the road again on January 14. All four of the games during the stand are SIAC games, including the Wednesday contest against Benedict.
The Golden Tigers and Claflin have met five times since 2012-13, with the Panthers winning the last two including last season's 72-61 victory in Orangeburg. The Golden Tigers will be looking for their first win over Claflin under head coach
Jerry Dunn in a place where they have won the only meeting between the two schools since 2012-13, and they will look to do so with defense. The Golden Tigers come into the game allowing just 67.1 points per game, the best in the conference thus far this season, against a team that is the third leading scoring team in the SIAC - Claflin (75.2 ppg).
Sophomore
James Eads, a preseason All-SIAC selection, leads the team in scoring at 15.6 points per game and has scored in double figures in eight of the 10 games he has played this season. The sophomore is nearing the 500-point mark for his career in just 37 games, pouring in 457 career points, which included a career-high 31 points earlier this season against Montevallo. Included in that performance against Montevallo, Eads went on a tear in a three-game period as he scored 71 points in games against Montevallo, Georgia College and William Jewell.
Junior
Travis Flagg is second on the team in scoring at 11.4 points per game, while also leading the team in assists this season with 2.5 per game. Sophomore
Joshua Culver leads the team in rebounding at 5.7 rebounds per game, while junior
Elijah McMillan has returned after missing the first nine games of the season and is averaging 4.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in limited action.
