MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The Tuskegee University women's basketball team beat the buzzer at the end of regulation and in overtime to pull off the stunner over Georgia College 65-62 at the Centennial Center in non-conference action Wednesday night.
Tuskegee (3-5) ended a three-game losing streak when
Cheyanne Williams forced overtime with a buzzer-beating eight-footer off the backboard to tie the contest at 60-all. The two teams battled in the second half until
Taylor Miller hit a three-pointer with five seconds remaining on the clock in the overtime period to give Tuskegee a three-point lead, and then the Tigerettes forced a bad shot at the buzzer to pull out the victory.
Tuskegee led the majority of the game until Georgia College (4-1) took their first lead with 5:40 remaining in the third quarter and extended that lead to seven, until Tuskegee battled back to tie the contest and send it to overtime.
Rachel Brownlee led the Tigerettes with 17 points, extending her double-digit streak to 33 games dating back to last season. She was joined in double figures by Miller with 13 and Williams with 10 points and six rebounds.
Tuskegee shot 34.3 (23-of-67) percent from the floor and 35.7 (5-of-14) percent from beyond the arc in the victory. They also shot 73.7 (14-of-19) percent from the free throw line, while pulling down 45 rebounds and forcing 19 turnovers.
Alyah McGriff led Georgia College with 12 points and and nine rebounds, while Lindsey Reed added 11 points. The Bobcats shot 33.8 (22-of-65) percent from the floor and 21.4 (3-of-14) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 65.2 (15-of-23) percent from the free throw line.
Tuskegee returns to action Friday on the road at Auburn Montgomery, with tip time set for 5:30 pm. The game can be heard on the Tuskegee Digital Network.
