MELBOURNE, Fla. | The Tuskegee University men's basketball program returns to action in the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Tournament, facing William Jewell in the opening game of the tournament on Friday afternoon. The tournament also features Bluefield State and Florida Tech.
Tuskegee (0-4) has been without returning starter
Elijah McMillan since the outset of the season, as the junior forward returned as the second-leading scorer on the team; before playing without this year's leading scorer
James Eads in a loss to Montevallo on Tuesday.
However, Eads should be back to full health Friday as the Golden Tigers look to get into the win column for the first time this season. The preseason All-SIAC pick is averaging 19 points and four rebounds per game this season for the Golden Tigers, including back-to-back games of 20-plus points. The sophomore scored a career-high 31 points last week against Montevallo, and followed that up with 21 more against Georgia College.
With Eads out of the last contest, junior transfer
Travis Flagg picked up the slack with 19 points and
Austin Cherry with 17 points. The duo are the second and third leading scorers on this year's team, with Flagg averaging 10.3 points and 3.3 assists per game. Cherry is averaging 8.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Joshua Culver leads five players averaging at least four rebounds per game for Tuskegee this season, pulling down 6.5 per game and has also blocked three shots. Freshman
Myles Thomas is second on the team in rebounding at 5.3 rebounds per game (also averaging 6.5 points per game).
Tuskegee will face a William Jewell (2-1) team that has is averaging 83 points per game, and have four players in double figures in scoring in their three games. They are led by Patrick Whelan at 20 points per game, while Jorge Perez-Laham is averaging 16.3 points per game.
The game is scheduled to tip at 4:30 pm (est) in Melbourne.
