CARROLLTON, Ga. | Three players scored in double figures for the Tuskegee University women's basketball as they defeated the University of West Georgia 66-63 in non-conference action at The Coliseum Friday night to even their record at .500.
Rachel Brownlee and
Jamese Abney each scored 14 points to lead Tuskegee (2-2), while
Cheyanne Williams posted her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Lena Yoonis came off the bench for Tuskegee to record six points and 11 rebounds in the win. With her double-digit effort Friday night, Brownlee extended her consecutive streak of double digit games to 30 consecutive dating back to last season.
Tuskegee led 56-54 in regulation following a Brownlee jumper, before a lay-up by A'Kia Harris forced the extra frame. In the extra period, the two teams traded baskets until a Brownlee jumper gave Tuskegee a 62-58 lead with 1:12 remaining in the overtime period. West Georgia pulled to within 64-63 when De'Asia Jones drained a three-pointer with just 11 seconds remaining. However, it was Abney who put the game away at the free throw line by hitting a pair with just 10 seconds remaining for the win.
The Tigerettes shot 34.2 (27-of-79) percent from the floor and just 10.5 (2-of-19) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 83.3 (10-of-12) percent from the free throw line, and grabbed 65 total rebounds.
Aysha Harris led West Georgia with 15 points, while Jones recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds
Tuskegee returns to action Tuesday night at home, facing Lynn University at 5:30 pm with the game carried on the Tuskegee Digital Network.
