HOOPS PREVIEW: Tuskegee hosts Miles Monday, #WearCrimson

The Golden Tigers return home for five of sevent to close out regular season

TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University basketball programs return home for a one game before hitting the road next weekend, facing Miles College in a doubleheader at Chappie James Arena Monday night.

The women will tip at 5:30 pm (cst), followed by the men at 7:30 pm (cst) and all fans are asked to #WearCrimson. Both games can be heard on Sirius XM 93, on behalf of HSRN with Charles Ward providing the play-by-play.

Prior to the tip of the women's game, Tuskegee University will bring awareness to heart disease in women and honor those who have fought the battle - including a former colleague of Tuskegee University head coach Quacy Barnes-Timmons as part of "National Red Wear Day" which is February 5. At halftime of the men's game, the Tuskegee University football team will be honored by HSRN when they are presented the Conoway Cup for winning the HSRN Division II HBCU National Championship.

The Tuskegee (3-15, 2-8 SIAC) women will look to bounce back from road losses this week to Fort Valley State and Albany State when they take on Miles (10-10, 5-6). Last season, the two teams split the contests with each winning on the others home floor and both come into the game off of back-to-back losses to the same team.

Junior guard Rachel Brownlee and freshman guard Aryana Jackson continue to score in double figures, both with consecutive streaks on the line heading into the game tonight. Brownlee has scored in double figures in 17 of 18 games, including 15 consecutive games. Meanwhile, Jackson has scored in double figures in six of the seven games she has played in since joining the Tigerettes, including scoring in double figures six consecutive times.

Brownlee leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 17.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while Jackson is averaging 16.7 points per game for the Tigerettes.

Senior forward Halle Bentley has been grabbing rebounds at a record pace since the turn of the New Year. The senior has recorded three games in double figure rebounds, which include a pair of 12 rebounds games before setting a new career-high with 13 against Albany State.

Meanwhile, the Tuskegee (10-8, 6-5 SIAC) find themselves in the midst of a logjam in the middle of the SIAC West Division race as they currently sit fifth in the division - percentage points behind Kentucky State and ahead of LeMoyne-Owen, whom the Golden Tigers hold the tiebreaker over both with victories earlier this season.

Tuskegee will be playing back at Chappie James Arena, where they are shooting 41.5 [215-of-518] percent from the floor and 32.7 [72-of-220] from beyond the arc. This past week, the Golden Tigers had one of the worst shooting performances of the season on the road, converting just 33.3 [42-of-126] percent of their shots from the floor and 12.1 [7-of-58] percent from beyond the arc in losses to Fort Valley State and Albany State.

Sophomore Elijah McMillan has turned up the offense since conference season has begun, as he is the second leading scorer in conference games for the Golden Tigers. The New York-native poured in a career-high 28 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds against Fort Valley State [1/28/16] last week. So far in 11 SIAC games, McMillan has averaged 10.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He has scored in double figures six times in conference games, including 20 or more points two times.

Freshman James Eads leads the team in scoring at 12.2 points per game, while senior Camden Foster is second on the team in scoring at 11.9 points and first in rebounding at 6.9 rebounds per game. He is also closing on 1,000 career points as he sits 849 career points with nine regular season games and the tournament remaining. He has also grabbed 570 career rebounds.

Senior Kevin May leads the team in assists, averaging 4.7 assists per game, and the senior has scored 750 career points and has dished out a career-high 349 total assists - leaving him 151 shy of 500 and just 51 shy of 400 total assists.
