HOOPS PREVIEW: Tuskegee faces Claflin Monday

Two-game South Carolina road swing comes to an end in Orangeburg

ORANGEBURG, S.C. | The Tuskegee University basketball programs will wrap up their two-game road swing through the state of South Carolina with a doubleheader at Claflin University Monday night.

The women will begin the action at 5:30 pm (est), with the men following at 7:30 pm (est) inside the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center (Tullis Arena).

The Tuskegee (1-9, 0-2 SIAC) women are looking to end an eight-game losing streak that was extended following a 70-58 loss to 24th-ranked Benedict College on Saturday afternoon. In that contest, Rachel Brownlee posted a game-high 21 points for the Tigerettes who led at halftime and into the third quarter before Benedict opened the second half on a 14-2 run to take the lead.

In that contest, the Tigerettes stated their third different lineup this season when they went with Jesslyn Mahone (point guard), Demetries McNealey (guard), Brownlee (guard), Halle Bentley (forward) and Cheyanne Williams (forward). With the move in the lineup, the Tigerettes now have their best two rebounders - Tyler Everett and Uche Ibebunjo - coming off the bench and providing depth off the bench.

Brownlee continues to lead Tuskegee, averaging a career-high 16.8 points per game this season - including scoring 20 or more points four times.

Meanwhile, the Tuskegee (6-4, 2-1 SIAC) men will look win their second consecutive game on the road in South Carolina, as they are coming off of a last-second 68-67 victory over Benedict Saturday. In that game, senior Camden Foster scored a game-high 19 points, but it was Joshua Culver scoring three of his five point in the final seconds - including a free throw with four seconds remaining - that gave the Golden Tigers the victory.

Tuskegee currently leads the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) in scoring defense at 62.0 points per game, and are currently fifth in the nation (behind national leader Cal Poly Pomona at 57.9 points per game). Senior point guard Kevin May currently leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.85, and is ranked 29th overall in the country.

Foster continues to lead Tuskegee at 13.8 point and 6.2 rebounds per game, while James Eads is averaging 11.5 points per game through the first 10 games this season.
