TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University basketball programs will hit the road for their final back-to-back trip of the season, as they travel to Fort Valley State (Thursday) and Albany State (Saturday).
The women will tip at 6 pm (est) on Thursday night at HPE Arena, followed by the men at 8 pm (est) against Fort Valley State; before traveling 90 minutes to face Albany State at 1 pm (est) for the women on Saturday and the men at 3 pm (est).
The Tuskegee (3-13, 2-6 SIAC) women will put their two-game winning streak on the line against Fort Valley State on Thursday, having defeated Lane and LeMoyne-Owen at the end of last week. The back-to-back wins by the Tigerettes were the first since February 2013, and the three wins this season surpass all of last season.
Junior guard
Rachel Brownlee earned a pair of honors for her performance last week as she averaging 19.6 points per game, recorded one double-double and narrowly missed another. The junior was named the SIAC Player of the Week on Monday, and followed that up with the BOXTOROW National Player of the Week on Wednesday.
For the season, Brownlee is averaging a team-leading 17.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Freshman
Aryana Jackson also had a big week for the Tigerettes last week, scoring 21 points each against Lane and LeMoyne-Owen. For the season, in just five games, Jackson is averaging 17.6 points per game and has scored in double digits in four of the games this season.
Last week was also a big week in rebounding for the Tigerettes, as four players recorded double-digit efforts. Freshmen
Uche Ibebunjo (15 rebounds against Central State) and
Tyler Everett (10 rebounds against Lane) led the way, as
Halle Bentley grabbed 12 rebounds against Central State and matched that against LeMoyne-Owen. Brownlee added 10 rebounds (in her double-double) against Lane.
Meanwhile, the Tuskegee (10-6, 6-3 SIAC) men find themselves in a logjam in the SIAC West Division after their 3-1 week at home last week.
Tuskegee is fourth currently in the standings, percentage points behind LeMoyne-Owen. They are also just two wins out of first place in the standings with Stillman and Miles still on the schedule two times each. The Golden Tigers have won five of their last seven games, including three of their last four this season.
James Eads continues to lead the Golden Tigers in scoring at 13.0 points per game, including a career-high 24 points against LeMoyne-Owen in the last game. Senior
Camden Foster leads the team in rebounding at 6.7 rebounds per game. Foster is nearing a pair of milestones for his career, sitting at 828 career points and 554 career rebounds.
Senior
Kevin May leads the team in assists at 5.0 assist per game, and is currently sitting at 342 total assists for his career.
The Golden Tigers find themselves ranked fifth nationally in scoring defense at 63.0 points per game, which is tops in the conference. They are also fourth in the country in three-point field goal percentage defense (28.4) and 28thh overall in field goal percentage defense (40.7).
