TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University basketball teams return to the floor Monday night in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action against Kentucky State University at Chappie James Arena in the midst of a four-game homestand.
The women tip off at 5:30 pm, followed by the men at 7:30 pm.
The Tuskegee (1-12, 0-5 SIAC) women, led by junior
Rachel Brownlee, look to end a losing streak against the West Division-leading Thorobrettes of Kentucky State (11-3, 6-2 SIAC). Brownlee leads the Tigerettes in scoring at 17.4 points and rebounding at 6.6 rebounds per game, including a game-high 23 points against Central State on Saturday at Chappie James Arena. The junior guard is averaging 18.6 points per game in five conference games, and has scored in double figures in each contest - including 20 or more points in four of the five games.
Freshman guard
Aryana Jackson poured in a career-high 19 points against Central State and is averaging 13 points per game off the bench for the Tigerettes to give the team some added depth. Senior forward
Halle Bentley recorded her first career double-double against Central State with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and leads the team in blocked shots this season.
Tyler Everett has come off the bench since the turn of the new year and is averaging 5.8 rebounds per game, while
Jesslyn Mahone is averaging 2.9 assists per game for the Tigerettes who are shooting 32.8 (226-of-689) percent from the floor.
Meanwhile, the Tuskegee (8-5, 4-2 SIAC) men look to extend their winning streak to three against Kentucky State (7-6, 6-3 SIAC) following the women's game. The Golden Tigers have won three consecutive games one other time this season in November when they defeated Montevallo (twice) and Georgia Southwestern.
Over the last three games, several career-highs have been set by different players for the Golden Tigers starting with
Daniel Roach against Claflin with 18 points.
James Eads has set a new career-high in back-to-back games with 22 points against Paine and 23 against Central State, while
Elijah McMillan set a new career-high with 12 points against Central State. Senior
Camden Foster grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds against Paine to set a new career high.
Eads leads the Golden Tigers in scoring after his outburst in the last games, averaging 13.0 points per game - including 12.8 points per game in conference play. Foster is second on the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 6.6 rebounds per game. Senior
Kevin May is third on the team in scoring at 8.2 points per game, including averaging 10.5 points per game in conference play. May has dished out 27 assists in the last four games - including games of eight, seven and seven.
The Golden Tigers are fifth in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 63 points per game in 13 contests while shooting 41,3 (293-of-710) percent from the floor.
