TUSKEGEE, Ala. | Following their games on the road on Thursday, the Tuskegee University basketball programs return to action on Saturday against separate opponents. The women will play host to Columbus State, while the men will entertain Morehouse.
The women's game, originally scheduled for 1:00 pm (cst)/2 pm (est) has been moved back to a starting time of 5:00 pm (cst)/6:00 pm (est) due to the football team's participation in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
The meeting will be the second in the last two seasons between the schools, but will be the first game for first-year head coach
Quacy Barnes-Timmons against her former school. Timmons served under current Columbus State (3-1) head coach Jonathan Norton for three years, where she helped lead the Lady Cougars to a 68-21 record during that span - including a 31-2 record last season.
So far this season, the Tigerettes are led in scoring by
Rachel Brownlee at 13.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game; while
Demetries McNealey averages 8.3 points per game. Between Brownlee and McNealey, the duo has attempted 67 shots in the last two games while attempting 36 in the game against Spring Hill on Thursday night.
Freshman
Tyler Everett is among the leaders in rebounding for the Tigerettes at 6.5 rebounds per game, while
Jesslyn Mahone averages just over two assists per game for Tuskegee (1-5, 0-1 SIAC).
Meanwhile, the men's game - originally scheduled for 3:30 pm (cst)/4:30 pm (est) - has been moved back to 7:00 pm (cst)/8:00 pm (est), or immediately following the women's game.
Tuskegee (5-3, 1-0 SIAC) comes into the game after ending a modest two-game losing streak with their 53-48 victory over Spring Hill College on Thursday night to open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
The Golden Tigers are led in scoring by freshman
James Eads at 13.1 points per game - scoring in double figures in seven of eight games - while senior
Camden Foster leads the team in rebounding at 6.5 rebounds per game while being second on the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game.
Sophomore
Elijah McMillan is among the team leaders in scoring and rebounding, averaging 7.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, while senior
Kevin May is averaging is 7.1 points per game and 4.0 assists per game this season.
Morehouse (4-1, 0-1 SIAC) enters the game following a 74-56 loss to Miles College, and the game will not be the first trip to Chappie James Arena this season for the Maroon Tigers as they played in the season-opening CIAA/SIAC Challenge. The two teams met twice last season with Morehouse winning the first game in Atlanta (79-66), before winning in Birmingham and ending the Golden Tigers' season in the SIAC Tournament (55-52).
