TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University basketball programs will return to action after a lenghty break when they return to action on the road facing Benedict College on the road Saturday afternoon.
The women will start off the day at 1:00 pm [est], followed by the men at 3:00 pm [est] at HRC Arena.
The Tigerettes will hit the floor for the first time since December 16 when they faced Alabama A&M on the road - which was their third road game in four games and their second consecutive game against an NCAA Division I member school. Tuskegee [1-8, 0-1 SIAC] has not played in conference action since falling to Spring Hill [12/3/15], 65-38.
Tuskegee is led by
Rachel Brownlee [Whately, Ala.] in scoring and rebounding through nine games, averaging 16.3 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game. The junior guard - a preseason All-SIAC selection - has scored in double figures in eight of the first nine games this season, and has led the team in scoring in seven of the first nine games. Brownlee has hit for 20 or more points three times, including tying a career-high 26 points against Columbus State [12/5/15].
Demetries McNealey [Huntsville, Ala.], who left the last game against Alabama A&M [12/16/15] with an injury, is the second-leading scorer at 8.6 points per game while shooting 30.5 [25-of-82] percent shooting from the floor. Between Brownlee and McNealey, the duo 232 of the team's 467 shots and have combined to connect on 76 of the team's 154 shots this season.
Freshmen
Uche Ibebunjo [Snellville, Ga.] and
Tyler Everett [Plainfield, Ill.] are leaders in rebounding this season for the Tigerettes, with Ibebunjo grabbing 5.6 rebounds per game and Everett 5.4 per game. Junior transfer
Jesslyn Mahone [Union Springs, Ala.] leads the team with 2.2 assists per game.
The game will mark the second time the Tigerettes will face a team that is ranked in their region, and in the country, as 24th-ranked Benedict is currently fifth in the D2SIDA poll in the last poll that was released prior to the Christmas break.
Meanwhile, the Golden Tigers have not been on the court since December 5 against Morehouse - which was the third of three games in a span of five days for Tuskegee [5-4, 1-1 SIAC]. The game will mark just the fourth road game this season for the Golden Tigers, who won their final road game before the break against Spring Hill College [12/3/15], 53-48.
Tuskegee is led in scoring, and rebounding, by senior
Camden Foster [Barnesville, Ga.] at 13.2 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game through nine games this season. Foster has scored in double figures in eight of nine games, with the only game not in double figures coming on the road at Georgia Southwestern [12/1/15], in which he was held to a season-low four points. He has four of the top six scoring performances of the season, and has hit a season-high of 17 points three times.
Freshman
James Eads [Orlando, Fla.] is second on the team in scoring at 12.4 points per game, while shooting 40.9 [38-of-93] percent from the floor. He has scored in double figures in six of nine games this season, including the first two games of the season with 15 against Fayetteville State [11/13/15] and 17 against Johnson C. Smith [11/14/15].
The Golden Tigers have recorded 23 blocked shots this season, with 19 of those coming from four players -
Joshua Culver [Lilburn, Ga.],
Thomas Massey [Snellville, Ga.], Foster and
Daniel Roach [Suwanee, Ga.]. The team has also grabbed 206 defensive rebounds, while allowing only 93 offensive rebounds this season.
