TUSKEGEE, Ala. | Fresh off of their buzzer-beating upset of Montevallo on Wednesday night, the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers must now turn their attention to another Peach Belt Conference member school in Georgia Southwestern.
The two teams will tip off at 3 pm (cst) at Chappie James Arena Saturday afternoon.
SERIES HISTORY: This is the first meeting between the two teams.
LAST TIME OUT (TUSKEGEE): Joshua Culver found himself on the end of a missed shot with defenders laying around him on the ground, and the clock winding down. The freshman southpaw put up the ball up off the glass, and it fell in with just 1.2 seconds remaining to give Tuskegee a 53-51 upset over 20th-ranked Montevallo at Trustmark Arena on Wednesday night.
Camden Foster led Tuskegee (2-1) with 16 points and seven rebounds, while
Elijah McMillan added 12. Leading scorer
James Eads chipped in with nine, and
Daniel Roach eight off the bench.
LAST TIME OUT (GEORGIA SOUTHWESTERN): Junior Karon Wright scored a game-high 22 points and fellow junior Brandon Price added 21 to lead the Georgia Southwestern men's basketball team past Fort Valley State, 89-85, on Tuesday evening in the Storm Dome. It was the third straight opening day victory for the Hurricanes. Fort Valley State fell to 1-2 overall.
TAKING A LOOK AT GEORGIA SOUTHWESTERN: The Peach Belt Conference men's basketball preseason coaches poll was released Friday morning and Georgia Southwestern is picked to come in fifth place out of 14 teams. The Hurricanes received one third place vote, five fourth place votes and four fifth place votes. Head coach Mike Leeder has to replace four starters from last year's squad that recorded a 15-12 overall record and qualified for the PBC's postseason tournament. Damien Leonard is the lone returner in 2015-16. Leonard started and played in all 26 games last season and recorded 14.7 ppg and 4.3 rpg.
L-EADS THE WAY: Freshman
James Eads has led the way in three games for the Golden Tigers so far this season, averaging 13.7 points per game in the CIAA/SIAC Challenge. The Orlando native score 15 points in his collegiate debut against Fayetteville State, scoring 13 of this points in the first half. Against Fayettville State, Eads scored 17 points, with 11 of those coming in the second half.
DREAMING OF A DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Through three games this season, senior
Camden Foster is nearly averaging a double-double with 13.7 points and 7.7 rebounds. The senior scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds against Fayettville State, leaving him just one rebound shy of a double-double. He followed that up with 12 points and seven rebounds against Johnson C. Smith. Foster scored a season-best 16 against 20th-ranked Montevallo.
