BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 7, 2014) – The red-hot Tuskegee (17-11) basketball team built a 20-2 lead on the Thorobreds of Kentucky State (15-14) and went on to blast the bluegrass school, 90-68, in a SIAC Basketball Tournament semifinal game in Birmingham on Friday night. The Golden Tigers extended their margin to 28 points with 3:04 remaining in the first half.
With a 46-23 halftime lead, the Golden Tigers went on to shoot 54 percent from the floor and 78 percent from the free throw line in the semifinal game played at Bill Harris Arena.
Coming off the bench,
Richard Dixon scorched the nets for 19 points and he led the Golden Tigers with 11 rebounds.
Javier McKinney scored 17 points and
Graham Olatunji added 14 points.
Elliot Dean netted 13 points and
Camden Foster grabbed seven rebounds.
Antonio Sullivan, the game's top scorer, had 24 points for the Thorobreds. Three other Thorobreds scored in double figures. Brandon Darrett led KSU with 12 rebounds.
Kentucky State cut the Tuskegee's lead to 14 points three times during the second half, but the Golden Tigers withstood every KSU rally.
The Golden Tigers pulled down 39 rebounds, while limiting the Thorobreds to 29 rebounds.
For the fifteenth time since 1934, Tuskegee will be playing in the championship game of the SIAC Basketball Tournament. The Golden Tigers will meet the Wildcats of Fort Valley State at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, the winner of the other semifinal game against Paine College.
