The high-powered offense that the Tuskegee Golden Tiger Basketball team has displayed during their longest winning streak of the season was in full swing Saturday afternoon, as Leon Douglas' team had three 20-point scorers while coasting to a 93-78 win in the process. The victory extended the longest winning streak in the SIAC's West Division this season to six games, while Tuskegee (11-8; 8-2 in SIAC) shot 57.6 percent from the floor in the win.
The Magicians (6-12; 4-6 in SIAC) had the early lead for nearly six minutes, and were up by as many as four points until
Elliot Dean gave TU their first lead of the game at 12-11 with 13:23 left in the first half. LeMoyne-Owen would temporarily get the lead back, but
Javier McKinney's jumper on the next possession would give Tuskegee the lead for good, at 14-13 with 12:18 left in the opening half. The visitors would trail by double digits over the final eight minutes of the contest, and TU would lead by as many as 18 points late in the second half.
Richard Dixon led all scorers, as he finished the game with 23 points while shooting 10-of-18 from the field. He was also one rebound shy of a double-double, as he finished with nine boards. McKinney finished with 22 points and tied a game-high with three steals, and
Camden Foster would pick the lone double-double for the home team, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds to go with five assists and a game-high of three blocks. Daequon Mitchell finished with 22 points in the losing cause for LeMoyne-Owen.
Tuskegee used depth, speed and aggression to break the game open in the second half, as the Golden Tigers shot nearly 64 percent from the floor. They dominated the game in points in the paint by a 52-18 margin, while outscoring LeMoyne-Owen 20-6 on the fast break. There was also a huge discrepancy in scoring from the bench, as TU won that battle by a 51-25 margin.
Saturday brings the rematch of perhaps the most exciting basketball game played in the SIAC's West Division this season, as Stillman College comes to town to play Tuskegee for the first time since blowing an 18-point lead to the Golden Tigers at Birthright Alumni Hall in an evening contest played one week ago today. The loss gave SC consecutive losses for the second time in conference play this season, while it kept Tuskegee's longest winning steak of the year alive for the rematch. Saturday's contest is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff, or 20 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.
