Reginald Ruffin Named to the Executive Committee of National Coalition of Minority Football Coaches Board

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The National Coalition of Minority Football Coaches (NCMFC) have selected Tuskegee University Director of Athletics Reginald Ruffin to serve on the executive committee of its board. Ruffin is among several past and present college head football coaches as well as athletic directors.

Established in June 2020, the National Coalition of Minority Football Coaches (NCMFC) and its foundation are dedicated to preparing, promoting, and producing minority coaches at all levels of football (professional, collegiate, scholastic, and recreational).

The organization is led by University of Maryland coach Mike Locksley, who is former offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama under Nick Saban. Saban is on the board of directors along with Ozzie Newsome, a former Crimson Tide player under Paul "Bear" Bryant and a trailblazer in the NFL as the first Black general manager.

Sylvester Croom, another former Alabama player under Bryant who also coached for him and was the head coach at Mississippi State University, is on the NCMFC executive committee.

The movement for racial equality and social justice originally spurred Locksley to take action. The organization's goals are to "prepare, promote and produce qualified minority coaches to ascend in the ranks of college and professional football."

"I am extremely pleased and honored to be named to the executive committee of the NCMFC's board," Ruffin stated. "During my time with the organization, I intend to continue to contribute to the efforts to make sure we have an equal playing field for all minorities in all phases of athletics."

The board of directors also includes Super Bowl-winning Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, former collegiate coach Doug Williams, who was the first Black quarterback to win Super Bowl MVP, former South Carolina State head coach Buddy Pough, the first Black NCAA Division 1A head coach Willie Jeffries, former NFL GM and two-time Super Bowl winner Rick Smith, Super Bowl-winning former general manager Bill Polian, pioneering athletic director Debbie Yow, the first Hispanic female athletic director (UNLV) Desiree Reed-Francois, and Miami Dolphins GM Chris Grier.

Ruffin will serve on the executive committee, still aiming to achieve the goal to remove the roadblocks and level the playing field for minority football coaches. Through unmatched professional training and educational programs, the NCMFC aims to prepare its coaches for greater success.
