The Tuskegee University women's basketball team is in Atlanta to take on Georgia State Tuesday evening from the GSU Sports Arena. The game will be the squad's only tune up before officially opening the season Nov. 8 in the Gulf South/SIAC Challenge.
Gone are the 18.1 points per game from Alexis Carater and the 12 points per outing from
Jade Wilson, but TU returns a wealth of experience in the backcourt with (
India Blakely,
Eleana Daniels and
Normesha Pitts).
Shelle Daniels is back for her senior season as the team's leading scorer. The Indianapolis native will get plenty of frontcourt help from
Teja Finley,
Ashiala Jackson and
Christina Massey. Last season, S. Daniels was one of the league leaders in rebounds after hauling in a total of 220, an average of 9.2 per game. 12 times last season she scored in double figures including a career-high 21 points against LeMoyne Owen.
Both Blakely and Daniels were voted on as members of the 2019-20 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Preseason team.
Seven newcomers round out a roster that looks to improve on last year's historic season, which finished with the school's best record in 19 years and a 20-6 overall record, the program's first 20-win season since 2000. TU also advanced to the semi-finals of the conference tournament and ended the year with a 13-3 league mark.
