A total of 38 current and former Tuskegee student-athletes will graduate as part of the Tuskegee University 2018 graduating class Saturday afternoon. The graduates represent 12 of university's sports programs.
Saturday marks the 133rd Spring Commencement Exercises at Tuskegee, the university will award 392 bachelor's degrees, 31 master's degrees and one doctoral degree. The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. in the Gen. Daniel "Chappie" James Arena and will feature guest speaker by Barron M. Witherspoon Sr., a 1985 economics graduate and Procter & Gamble's current global vice president for industry affairs.
TU will also present an honorary degree to civil rights leader and Tuskegee-based attorney Fred D. Gray, who once had legal clients such as Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gray is known as one who safeguarded the civil rights of others for more than half a century through a number of landmark Alabama legal decisions.
Last year former ESPN President, John Skipper addressed the graduating class and in 2016 Tyler Perry delivered the keynote address.
