TUSKEGEE, Ala. | Elijah McMillan scored a season-high and paced three Tuskegee University players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as a strong second half pushed Benedict to a 63-56 victory over the Golden Tigers in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action at Booker T. Washington High School Wednesday night.
McMillan led Tuskegee (1-12, 0-4 SIAC) with 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. The junior also finished with seven of the team's 29 rebounds in the loss.
Travis Flagg finished with 14, including the first nine points of the game as Tuskegee ran to a 9-0 lead to start; while
James Eads finished with 11 points and four rebounds.
Tuskegee shot 37.5 (18-of-48) percent from the floor and 37.5 (8-of-21) percent from beyond the arc, while forcing 13 Benedict turnovers and outscoring the Tigers bench 21-20. Meanwhile, Benedict finished the night shooting 48.9 (22-of-45) percent from the floor and just 11.1 (1-of-9) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 60 (18-of-30) percent from the free throw line, while outrebounding Tuskegee 33-29.
Brandon Morris led Benedict (6-6, 3-1 SIAC) with 17 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots, while Christopher Spencer added 15 and Quayshun Hawkins 11 in the victory.
Tuskegee returns to action Monday night at Chappie James Arena against Paine College in SIAC action. The game tips at 7:30 pm and can be seen on the Tuskegee Digital Network.
