FORT VALLEY, Ga. - The Golden Tigers fell short of continuing their win streak against Fort Valley State as a trio of Wildcats scored in double figures to give Tuskegee a loss on the road 63-59 on Saturday evening.
Tuskegee (6-18, 4-10 SIAC) finished the night shooting 36.8 (23-of-57) percent from the floor and 29.2(7-of-24) from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 63.6 (7-of-11) percent from the free throw line. The Golden Tigers were outrebounded with 43 rebounds compared to Fort Valley and their 49 on the night.
The Golden Tigers battled in the early stages of the first half with Fort Valley. Both teams shot the ball at a decent pace shooting a combined 40 percent from the field in the first half. A deep three-pointer by
Daniel Roach sparked at 10-0 run for Tuskegee, which resulted in a 10 point lead, 23-13, midway through the first.
Fort Valley found a few answers of their own near the end of the first half as they would trim the lead to five going into halftime. The Golden Tigers held onto their narrow lead, 29-24, at halftime. The battle continued early in the second half as the Wildcats cut the Golden Tiger lead to one on a lay-up by Jalen Crawford. Tuskegee would lead only once more with 14 minutes remaining in the game.
The Golden Tigers were in the game until the end, but the combined 42-point effort from the trio of Dennard Williams (17), James Barnes (13) and Jalen Crawford (12) was just what the Wildcats needed to pick up their 10th conference win of the season.
Meanwhile, Tuskgeee had two players finish in double figures,
Elijah McMillan with 16 and
James Eads with 12 points.
The Golden Tigers only have two remaining regular season games before they travel to Birmingham for the SIAC Basketball Tournament, February 27-March 4.
